  • Jonathan Hickman's X-Men reboot introduced progressive ideas, embracing Scott, Logan, and Jean as a unique family unit.

The X-Menfranchise's Krakoan Era was groundbreaking in many ways – but one of its earliest, most shocking recontextualizations of classic X-lore involved the idea that Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Wolverine are in a polyamorous relationship. While never directly confirmed, it was obliquely hinted at that Scott and Logan's side of the love triangle had a physical dimension to it as well.

X-Men #7 – written by Jonathan Hickman, with art by Leinil Francis Yu – contained the first hard-to-deny reference to a sexual relationship between Cycl

Marvel Comics have always tried to be ahead of the curve when it comes to world and progressive tendencies. Black Panther was the first African lead character, during the Civil Rights movement. The X-Men were also a metaphor for that movement, talking hatred and bigotry. They have also tackled cancer, depression, alcoholism, and more. They have also had several homosexual/bisexual characters over the years. One of those, believe it or not, is one of Marvel’s most popular characters, Wolverine. While Logan has had several female loves, and his adoration for Jean Grey is iconic, he has also had male lovers, most notably Hercules. Now, with the new take on the X-Men by Jonathan Hickman, many are thinking that Wolverine is part of a recent polyamorous relationship with Jean Grey and Scott Summers.

Cyclops and Wolverine have been at each other’s throats for decades. Between differing leadership/fighting policies, polar contrary personalities and the fight over Jean Grey, they own never really gotten along at all. But now, as mutants rebuild their society, Scott, Logan, and Jean sound t

Scott, Jean & Wolverine: The Poly X-Men Relationship May Have a Queer Twist

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for X-Men #7 by Jonathan Hickman, Leinil Francis Yu, Gerry Alanguilan, Sunny Gho, VC's Clayton Cowles and Tom Muller, on sale now.

The X-Men are pushing more boundaries than ever before. As the mutant nation of Krakoa stakes its claim on World, developing a new tradition with its own language and asserting its right to independence on the world stage, some mutants are also fighting a more personal battle for unconventional relationships. While the relationship between Scott, Jean and Logan already seemed to break away from the norms of monogamy, X-Men #7 may indicate it breaks away from heteronormativity as well.

The series debut caused a stir online when fans first noticed the diagram of the lunar Summer House depicted doorways connecting the rooms of Scott, Jean and Logan. As the series continues, the polyamory of the three X-Men becomes more unmistakable, but up until now there only seemed to be an indication that Scott and Logan were sharing time with Jean

"I Loved You": Marvel Officially Settles the Wolverine/Cyclops/Jean Grey Love Triangle

The state of the love triangle between Wolverine, Cyclops, and Jean Grey has finally been settled. This week marks the X-Men's annual Hellfire Gala event, where mutants and heroes alike congregate on Krakoa for a night of lavish festivities. Unfortunately for everyone committed, this year's event ended in an unforeseen tragedy.

This year's gala ends with an insurmountable number of deaths after an assault by the mutant-hating Orchis group in X-Men: Hellfire Gala #1. Following the election of a recent X-Men team, a surprise attack by Nimrod is bolstered by Stark Sentinels and Orchis troops, who lay waste to the island of Krakoa. To rub salt in the wound, Professor X is tricked into killing , mutants after forcing them to walk through sabotaged Krakoan gates. Jean Grey is among the night's casualties. In her dying breath, she telepathically reaches out to both Cyclops and Wolverine—both of whom are off-island—to tell them that she loves them.
