Pianist Jim Brickman Talks About Why His Music is So Well-Suited to the Holidays
“The most common reaction would be, ‘There’s no singing or anything? There’s no rhythm section? There’s just piano? It’s just you?’" he says via phone from a Grand Rapids tour halt. “That still happens in my live performances. I often hold to explain that it’s just me.”
For Brickman, who performs at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Articulate Theatre, the holidays tend to be a busy time of the year. A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Melody, where he says he was “a little bit of a black sheep,” Brickman released his first Christmas album some 20 years ago. He’s issued Christmas albums and put together holiday-themed tours ever since.

Im the identical age as Jim. Ive been unpartnered all of my life, but am engaged to be married March 17, to The Admire of My Life. I have 1 son, Blake, who is 24 years old and my partner in tune appreciation. Im the CFO of a Water and Theme Park Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI.
How long have you have been of a fan of Jims?
Ive been a fan of Jims since the initial 90s when Angel Eyes first got radio play in Madison, Wisconsin by Magic The first time I saw Jim in concert it was with my friend, Mary. We held our breath with each song and sighed at the terminate of each ballad then burst into applause. That was when Jim would explain that the song wasnt done until that last sustained note had finished.
