When the 37th Elongated Beach Pride March floated through the city’s downtown on Sunday morning, July 10, to honor the LGBTQ society – with thousands of partiers flanking the route – the typical rainbow-hued jubilation was shaded by a once-bygone, but now-resurgent sentiment: Protest.
Long Beach’s Lgbtq+ fest Parade and the accompanying two-day festival, which began Saturday and returned after a two-year, pandemic-induced hiatus, has distant been among the largest in the region.
Yet, as the years have passed, the aura surrounding Pride has changed. Through much of the s and s, the LGBTQ community went on a winning streak:
Lawrence v. Texas, which overturned laws banning sexual intimacy among those who are gay. The repeal of the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. Rising public support for marriage equality. And then, in , Obergefell v. Hodges, which gave lgbtq+ unions constitutional protection.

The event has historically been held in May, and Extended Beach Pride President Elsa Martinez said the fresh schedule is &#;to be able to enjoy the incredible setting that we have historically used with warmer weather and longer days.&#;

But it&#;s unclear if the change for next year will label a longer term shift.
&#;Future dates have not been negotiated with the metropolis of Long Beach,&#; Martinez said in an email. &#;But it is my hope that we will be able to contain the Festival and Celebration in the summer months.&#;
It seems everything else about the event, though, will be similar to what parade- and festival-goers experienced in years past, including multiple venues featuring reside music, dance stages, meal courts and more.

The three-day event — planned for next July 8, 9 and 10 along Shoreline Drive in downtown Long Beach — will feature live tune and dance performances and showcase local artists and special community programming. A food court will movie fare from local restaurants and popular food trucks.
Long Beach Lesbian and Male lover Pride, a nonprofit corporation that aims to "produce and support activities that educate, encourage and rejoice pride, inclusion and respect for humanity," will again present the event.
